Jetta Atkinson, Chapter Director for Greater Phoenix NARI, got her first job in construction at age 16 where she worked for her Father who was a semi-custom builder, in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. She worked as a laborer, sweeping the sawdust out of framed homes and picking up 2x4's, and then carrying them down temporary stairscases to dumpsters. She did this for 5 humbling summers. Jetta then received her BS in Family Social Services with a minor in Sociology from Northern Illinois University, where she was also on a partial scholarship for volleyball. She received MVP honors and was later an All American in 1982.
Before coming to NARI, she had a very successful career in advertising in Detroit, and later in Phoenix. Major accounts in the local home building industry included her acting as an account director on such properties as Desert Mountain, Eagle Mountain, Prescott Lakes, Del Webb's Sun Cities, and Richmond American Homes SW and also had to the pleasure of managing the National Discount Tire advertising account. She managed a team of very creative people, and helped produce award winning television, radio, video, and print advertising campaigns.
As a Chapter Director for the association for the past 6+ years, Jetta is happily married to her husband, Lee, who is also her best friend, and has an 11 year old son, a golden retreiver she rescued, and a yellow lab pup.
She enjoys her job as the ambassador of the association and has seen its growth in 6 years from 35 members to 125! She has a deep appreciation for all of the volunteers who contribute their time, energy and dedication to make it one of the best in the country.
She annually walks in the Susan G. Komen event in Phoenix as she is a 6 year breast cancer survivor. |
